Theremin specialist Hekla announces new album, Turnar
Acclaimed Icelandic theremin musician Hekla has returned with the announcement of her forthcoming album, Turnar, alongside the release of new single, "Gráminn".
The upcoming album was recorded partly in (and named after) a medieval castle tower in rural France, its ruinous black broken in spare beams of angelic stained-glass light. But, writes Hekla, "the sound of theremin kind of opens up a portal into a new realm that both looks into a dark old world and to the future."
Turnar will be Hekla’s third album, following her 2018 debut Á and 2022’s Xiuxiuejar. In celebration of the release, Hekla will be playing a headline gig at Cafe OTO in London on 5 March.
Tracklist:
- Inni
- Kyrrð
- Ókyrrð
- Var
- Í Ösku og Eldi
- Ólga
- Gráminn
- Flækjur
Turnar will be released on 14 March via Phantom Limb. Tickets for Hekla's London headline show are available now.
