The Weeknd and Drake continue to snub Grammys for 2023
The Weeknd and Drake are continuing to withhold their music from the Recording Academy ahead of the 2023 Grammy Awards.
Yesterday (13 October) voting started for next year's Grammy Awards, and Toronto artists The Weeknd and Drake didn't appear on the ballots sent out to voters, despite both having released solo albums this year (Dawn FM and Honestly, Nevermind).
According to Pitchfork, The Weeknd and Drake do appear on the ballot as featured guests multiple times on numerous songs that are being considered.
Last year Drake made the decision to withdraw his two 2022 Grammy nominations. He didn't give a reason why, but was nominated for Best Rap Album for Certified Lover Boy, and Best Rap Performance for "Way 2 Sexy" with Future and Young Thug.
The Weeknd also pledged to boycott The Grammys in March 2021 due to "secret committees" involved in the nomination process after not getting a single nomination despite having one of 2020's bestselling albums (After Hours).
A surprising addition to the 2023 ballot is Taylor Swift's Red (Taylor's Version), as Swift's label didn't submit the re-recording of her 2008 album Fearless in last year's Grammys or CMA Awards due to it being the "most awarded country album of all time". It was revealed back in July that the re-recorded album would be eligible for the 2023 Grammys due to being considered as "a new recording", but it wasn't clear if Swift would submit the album for consideration.
