MONEY headline The Waiting Room in London
“The mirage of faceless men / And all were not murdered but they were killed in the name /Of Paradise” came an a capella voice from the back of the bar at the beginning on MONEY’s headline show at The Waiting Room in Stoke Newington, London last night.
Frontman Jamie Lee’s voice rang over a parting crowd as he gleefully gestured to revellers, grabbing a man and kissing him on the cheek whilst reciting the words to ‘Paradise Is Hell’. He stands on the benches, as if preaching to followers before spinning a girl around and collapsing on the floor just below the stage.
The Manchester four-piece then proceeded to run through a selection of numbers from their forthcoming album The Shadow of Heaven, Jamie Lee chewing gum all the while, winking at those in the front row. ‘Bluebell Fields’ gains the biggest reaction from the crowd, whilst the album’s title track sees the wild, now shirtless, lead man take a reflective seat with an acoustic guitar. Pushing the microphone out into the crowd for the set’s closing number, all eyes are on Jamie as he sinks from the ceiling to the floor howling older number ‘Letter To Yesterday’.
