Liu Bei launch debut single at first ever live show
New London-based five piece Liu Bei, fronted by prolific composer and singer-songwriter Richard Walters, launched their debut single “Infatuation” during a brief and powerful first performance at a packed Servants Jazz Quarters in Dalston last night.
Following three solo albums, Walters - apparently on the verge of quitting live music - formed the band with a few friends out of a desire for a more collaborative project, and on the evidence of tonight’s confident show, the shift in emphasis has paid off.
Playing a short set of seven songs (“We’re a new band and don’t want to bore you to tears,” explains Richard), Liu Bei offer a delicate brand of grandiose and wide-screen pop, pitched somewhere between Keaton Henson and Dry The River, with Walters’ impressive vocal range and ear for melody shining through.
“Infatuation” was released as a limited edition 7-inch this week on Transgressive imprint ParadYse.
