HEALTH whip up a frenzy at their second London show of the night
Like figures summoned from some demonic noise rock depths, HEALTH emerged amidst shuddering bass lines and crackling electronic static late last night for their second performance at Birthdays.
Having already played to a post-work crowd at 6pm, their 10pm show immediately felt like the main event. Fresh from selling their own merch, and giving out random shots to fans, bassist John Famiglietti’s face appears above the rows of nodding heads, flashing in and out of the blue/red strobe lights. The only way to aptly describe it is trippy.
Their 45 minute set is a terrifying, thrilling assault on the senses, as chaotic and frenzied as it is measured. Recent track ‘Gold Star’ is an absolute highlight, stirring the crowd into the kind of flailing, crowd surfing, mass we’d expected from this evening. The speakers rumble like the thrusters from a jet engine whilst poppier hooks pierce through the distortion, weaving their own path above the filthy mesh of guitars, drums and screeches. With new material interspersed perfectly throughout the set, we can safely say we’re excited for their forthcoming third record.
