D.D. Dumbo plays his first UK show

Having recently signed to the record label 4AD, the multi-instrumentalist brought his brand of earthy blues to an intimate and adoring crowd, intricately constructing each song with an arrangement of loop pedals, basic drums, and a 12-string electric guitar.

The one-man band played a pared-down set that was raw and compelling, with support from Londoner Cousin Marnie, while his weighty timbre evoked The Black Keys and fellow countrymen Tame Impala.

Despite his soulful intensity and influences of “African dessert, Tanzanian ilimba and transcendental Tuvan melody”, the artist drolly spoke between songs, recounting an eventful visit to the capital as a child.

D.D. Dumbo will now continue on a small tour around the rest of England, on the back of his recent self-titled EP.
