There’s been a swathe of bands in the recent resurgence of psych rock sweeping the gig circuit recently, and after some critical acclaim for their debut album Soft Friday, North London duo Coves took it to the stage of London’s Lexington last night.
Bathed in the glow of pastel coloured lighting and through thick smoke machine fog, the band created an atmospheric spectacle, with frontwoman Rebekah Woods dancing animatedly with her tambourine and fringed leather jacket.
Half way in to the set, familiar sounding, heavily reverbed guitar rang out as they went into a cover of Chris Isaak’s brilliant “Wicked Game”.
Things truly picked up towards the end of the set, finishing in a wave of trashy guitars as Woods sang into an old megaphone.
