Tennis champion Roger Federer joins Coldplay on stage in Zurich
On the most recent stop of their European tour, on the second of two shows at Letzigrund Stadion in Zurich, Coldplay were joined on stage by tennis champion Roger Federer.
After frontman Chris Martin delivered speech about a fifth Coldplay member who quit after three months to become the greatest tennis player of all time, Roger Federer appeared on stage to play the shaker on “Don’t Panic" which is the opening song of Parachutes – their debut album which was released in 2000, and was produced by the band alongside Ken Nelson.
At one point, Martin paused the performance for Federer to have a solo on the shaker, and he later improvised a line for the song’s outro, singing, “everybody here’s got Roger to lean on.”
“You were flawless on the shaker, Roger. Is there anything you can’t do?!” Coldplay's band account commented on Federer’s Instagram, after he posted about the performance.
Coldplay are currently on their 133rd show of the Music of the Spheres world tour. They have been performing special covers and have welcomed other artists on stage. In Argentina, they brought out BTS’ Jin for “The Astronaut” and Tini for “Let Somebody Go", whilst in Colombia were joined by Manuel Turizo for “La Bachata".
Coldplay's Music of the Spheres album was released in 2021.
