Watch the spellbinding Sunna Margrét live in session for Best Fit

The preternaturally talented songwriter and performer was catapulted to fame when she joined electro-pop outfit Bloodgroup in 2010, aged only 18 at the time before later embarking on a journey of self-discovery and completing a BA in fine art at the École cantonale d'art de Lausanne, and then a master’s degree. She fell in love, created her own artistic network and started a label No Salad Records with her partner (and now husband) Stéphane Kropf.

Sunna's first solo release was 2017’s “Hero Slave”single where she combined haunting vocals with lo-fi beats. Since then she’s released four more singles, two EPs and last March dropped her debut album Finger on Tongue. She was a standout at last year's Airwaves and a few days before her show, Best Fit teamed up with Record in Iceland and headed outside Reykjavík – to a remote cabin in Hvalfjarðarsveit – and recorded a stripped back take on "Fern", taken from Sunna's last EP, which you can watch below.

Record in Iceland is a reimbursement scheme offered by Iceland’s Ministry of Culture and Business Affairs that gives anyone who records their music in Iceland a 25% refund on all recording costs incurred in Iceland. All you need to do is submit the total cost related to your recording – including travel, accommodation, wages and even post-production like mixing and mastering. Sunna Margrét will play three shows at SXSW in Austin, Texas next month; 11 March at Shangri-La, 12 March at the Central Presbyterian Church, and 13 March at International Nights at Rivian Park.
