Robin Richards unveils new solo single, "Flawwws"
Robin Richards, principal composer in beloved Manchester art-pop band Dutch Uncles, has shared "Flawwws" as the first release from his debut solo album, Taproots.
““Flawwws” is about concerns I had that I was spending too much time online, and the effect social media addiction was having on my creativity. It’s built on a modulating chord sequence, with the intention to make the listener uncomfortable,” Robin Richards says about the track, “so the chords move on just as you think they’ve resolved, and the intensity builds at the end, representing layers of distractions and compounding thoughts of doubt.”
Taproots features contributions throughout from pianist Chris Illingworth of the Mercury Prize-nominated GoGo Penguin, and flautist Ellen Beth Abdi. It was produced by Brendan Williams (James, Wu Lyf, GoGo Penguin, Dutch Uncles).
Robin Richards released his debut solo EP, Castel, via PRAH Recordings in 2019, followed by a double film soundtrack release The Earth Asleep & Birdsong in 2021.
