RAYE on her first Top 10 single as an independent artist: "It’s a mind-blowing moment"
RAYE has achieved her first UK Top 10 single as an independent artist, and has described it as a "mind-blowing moment".
This afternoon (2 December) RAYE's "Escapism" single featuring 070 Shake, which was released in October but has since gone viral on TikTok, placed sixth on the UK Official Singles Chart, marking her first Top 10 since becoming an independent artist in 2021.
While speaking to the Official Charts Company, RAYE said, "I’m just so grateful that I’m in a position where I can release the music that I love and that I’m proud of. It’s just the biggest surprise and blessing. It’s a mind-blowing moment that’s happening right now, it’s absolutely bonkers."
"I’m still pinching myself, I haven’t taken this in at all," RAYE continued. "I’m independent, you just have to keep working hard. I’m like ‘wait, I’m independent and I’m having commercial success?’ I’m still processing it."
RAYE's debut album My 21st Century Blues will be released on 3 February 2023, and is available to pre-order now.
