Paramore have teased a forthcoming David Byrne collaboration
Last week (6 October), Paramore released the "almost" remix album, Re: This Is Why. In celebration of the event, they were in conversation with writer Amanda Petrusich for The New Yorker Festival.
As well as performing a handful of songs including "Running Out Of Time", "Crave", and "Forgiveness", the band took part in a Q&A with Petrusich to discuss their sixth studio album, This Is Why, as well as their latest release which features the likes of Julien Baker, Claud, Wet Leg, Foals, and more.
Towards the end of the Q&A, Paramore were asked a selection of questions from fans who had written in. One person asked if they could choose a song from any of their older albums to be remixed, which would it be. Williams then revealed that David Byrne of Talking Heads features on an as-yet unreleased track which was supposed to feature on Re: This Is Why.
“There was someone that [Amanda Petrusich] mentioned who was going to be on this record but we’re saving it for something,” she said, before the crowd erupted into a cheer. Continuing she added: “So, all I’m going to say is it’s fucking insane. It’s incredible. It’s unreal. And hopefully, it won’t be too long before we get to share it. But we decided it was too special and we needed to wait and there’s more to that story and you’ll know all about it as soon as we’re able to share.”
The band described the project as “almost a remix album” in a statement on social media, saying, “We’ve long wanted to recognise the connection we have with some of the artists who’ve influenced us as a band and/or who have cited our band as an influence. Some of the songs have been remixed sort of classically, while others were reworked or rewritten. It’s incredible to hear all our worlds colliding.”
Paramore's sixth studio album, This Is Why, marked their final release under their contract with Atlantic Records, meaning Re: This Is Why is their first independent release.
Earlier this year, David Byrne was spotted at one of Paramore's Madison Square Garden shows.
