Pa Salieu sentenced to 33 months in prison for violent disorder in Coventry
BRIT-nominated rapper Pa Salieu has received a 33 month prison sentence for his involvement in a fight that broke out in Coventry after his friend was stabbed to death.
The 25-year-old artist, real name Pa Salieu Gaye, has been jailed for 33 months for one count of violent disorder and possessing a bottle as an offensive weapon in a fight that broke out in 2018 shortly after his friend was stabbed.
The fight happened in Coventry back in 2018, and took place after Fidel Glasgow, the grandson of The Specials' Neville Staple, was stabbed. Glasgow later died in hospital, and nobody has been charged with Fidel's murder
As Sky News reports, the BBC Sound of 2021 winner was caught on CCTV using a tree branch to hit a 23-year-old man repeatedly, resulting in him spending 10 days in hospital.
According to Coventry Telegraph, Judge Peter Cooke told Pa Salieu, "You are a young man who has already suffered impacts on your career as a result of these proceedings, but I observe it is a career that has flourished none the less. I observe you were close to the man who died in this attack. You have used your fame to assist other people, partic[ularly] disadvantaged backgrounds, those are factors that speak well of you and must be taken into account in your favour."
Back in March, he was acquitted of a second violent disorder charge relating to a large fight that took place minutes earlier and resulted in Glasgow's death.
