Mádé Kuti returns with new single, "I Won't Run Away"
Mádé Kuti, grandson of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and son of Femi Kuti, has returned with the brand new single, "I Won't Run Away".
Speaking of the track, Kuti explains: "I was thinking a lot about growth, and uncovering the characteristics that define me. I realised how easy it is for people to be weighed down by their flaws and thought there was nothing more beautiful than a person that could look at themselves objectively and strive to be better not only for their own sake, but for the people around them, their community, and the world at large. 'I Won’t Run Away' is about perseverance, seeking the best version of yourself and challenging your flaws head on."
Following the release of his Grammy-nominated 2021 debut album For(e)ward – released as part of the Legacy + double-album alongside his father's Stop the Hate – "I Won't Run Away" sees Kuti continuing to push the Afrobeat format forward, blurring the lines of genre as he dabbles in elements of jazz, psychedelia and rock.
