Lizzo to star as Sister Rosetta Tharpe in forthcoming biopic
Lizzo has revealed that she will play the starring role in forthcoming biopic about pioneering musician Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
Amazon MGM Studios have been developing a biopic about Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and her influential music which has shaped many artists over the years. Earlier this week, Deadline reported that the biopic is development with Lizzo, Kevin Beisler, Nina Yang Bongiovi of Significant Productions, and producer Forest Whitaker.
In her own post, Lizzo confirmed the news that she will be having a key role in the production. "Let me be very clear: there were no auditions for Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Because this is a film I’ve been producing for years, fighting for her story to get told… I’ve been honoring her in my music videos & performances… pitching her movie to people who’ve never heard of her.. studying her life and reading every book that exists about her. This is my baby, my passion— because Rosetta deserves. The Godmother of Rock n Roll is in good hands y’all."
There is currently no release date for the biopic. Lizzo's fifth studio album, Love In Real Life will be released later this year via Nice Life Recording Company/Atlantic Records.
