Zola Jesus and Devon Welsh launch livestreaming platform for musicians during coronavirus pandemic
Zola Jesus and Devon Welsh have launched their new livstreaming platform Koir to support artists during the coronavirus pandemic.
Koir launched today (20 March), and was created by Zola Jesus (real name Niki Rosa Danilova), Devon Welsh, and web developer Erik Zuuring.
This afternoon, both Zola Jesus and Devon Welsh announced details of their new livestreaming service on socials. Zola Jesus wrote on Twitter, "for the last week i've been working with some friends on a website that could help centralize livestream events and empower musicians to learn how to livestream themselves. you can submit your event to be listed, and learn more by visiting."
Koir's mission statement reads, "After many conversations about the music industry, we wanted to help artists feel more empowered and sustainable with their work. Though livestreaming is not intended to replace live music, it gives musicians another option to monetize and promote their music. We feel it is important that musicians have as many tools and resources as possible in a time when the financial value of music is in decline."
The statement adds, "Koir v0.1 currently consists of an event calendar and thorough guides on how to livestream, written with the musician in mind."
