Will.I.Am takes legal action against Pharrell, claims copyright for phrase 'I Am'
Black Eyed Peas producer, Will.I.Am has taken legal action against N.E.R.D’s Pharrell Williams over the use of the phrase, ‘I Am’.
Pharrell used to two words to form the name of his new brand, ‘i am OTHER’, however The Voice judge seems to have taken offence to this. Will.I.Am has been quoted saying the name sounds ”confusingly similar” to his own alias, whilst also claiming legal ownership to the phrase.
Pharrell later hit back at Will.l.Am in an interview with Rolling Stone where he told them: ”I am surprised in how this is being handled and I am confident that Will’s trademark claims will ultimately be found to be as meritless and ridiculous as I do.”
This follows just months after Will.I.Am was accused of stealing a whole song from Arty and Mat Zo, sampling their track ‘Rebound’ on his new single ‘Let’s Go’.
