Watch Röyksopp's new video for "Skulls"
Norwegian electro pioneers Röyksopp have unveiled their video for "Skulls", the lead single from their final album, The Inevitable End.
In our 9/10 review of the record, we said that "As their final album, The Inevitable End acts like the third part of a gripping trilogy should. It's dramatic, action-packed, wraps up the preceding narratives and provides closure – think of this as the Return Of The Jedi of Röyksopp's career. It's mature, grounded and with the benefit of hindsight, bolsters the calibre of their previous records. This is the final Harry Potter book, Season 6 of The Sopranos, the final act in Les Mis – it's just as melodramatic too, in the best way possible."
The video for "Skulls" is dark - it's described as "follow[ing] the ominous journey of Svein and Torbjørn with friends and 83 year-old Adolf into dark woods and dark places.” It's dark both in terms of what's actually on screen - scattered flickers of strobe-plagued greyscale with flutters of monochrome - and in terms of narrative. Do you like satanic rituals, classic American road-horror or the idea of demonic possession? You might like this if so.
