Washed Out to release new visual album Mister Mellow this month
Ernest Greene has announced Mister Mellow, his first new record as Washed Out since 2013's Paracosm.
Mister Mellow is described as "a fully immersive multimedia experience" that drifts a considerable distance from his earlier material and expands upon the ideas of last month's comeback "Get Lost". Expect noises from "free jazz, house, hip-hop, and psych", with healthy doses of vocal samples and a keen eye on The Millenial Generation.
A press release explains: "In classic Millennial fashion, most young adults' perception of their own lives are overblown and overdramatised to the point of absurdity - as are the many ways they distract themselves from the insecurities faced on a daily basis (see social media, fantasy, drugs, music). Mister Mellow shines a light on the humour found in this paradox - how we can be so bored and unhappy in what is often a very privileged, contented life?"
The album has been created across two years almost totally by Greene - his only collaborator was engineer Cole MGN. A full-length "visual counterpart" will arrive alongside Mister Mellow that explores the gamut of animation; it apparently serves as a reaction to the "sterile, hyper-realitic renderings of most digital-based art."
North American live dates are already penned in for the summer; UK shows will be confirmed for the autumn.
