Warpaint apologise for Beyoncé and Rihanna criticism
In a recent interview with Q Magazine, L.A fourpiece Warpaint were quoted saying less-than-favourable remarks about Beyoncé and fellow popstar Rihanna, reportedly denouncing their “hyper-sexual” image. Now, responding to the controversy surrounding the news, the band have apologised and clarified their comments.
The original article cited singer Theresa Wayman as saying “Every song on Beyonce’s last album has her basically looking like a slut and she does not need to do that”, later adding that Rihanna “could’ve done something so much more subtle and artful”.
In a post on the band’s Facebook page however, Wayman claims to have been misquoted in a “hyperbolic and crude manner”. “A journalist came on our bus and casually asked us what we thought about women in music and we responded as fans and consumers and not as card carrying feminists,” she writes. “There’s not a shred of self-importance in these words. I’m not trying to cover my tracks but this is really upsetting to me. I apologize for being careless with my words.”
You can read the full apology here, with the original article posted on the Q website.
