UK Official Singles Chart announces video streams will contribute to chart positions
This summer will see the UK Official Singles Chart allow video streams to contribute to the rankings of the sales/stream driven chart of popular UK music.
The Official Charts Company has announced they'll be allowing video streams and downloads to contribute to numbers when placing artists on the chart.
Apple Music, Spotify and Tidal have added video content to their subscription service, and YouTube recently launched their new subscription service in the UK, leading to the Official Charts choosing to include videos in their weekly counts.
Commencing on 6 July, you will be able to support your favourite artists by watching or downloading their videos, and it could even result in a chart position. Popstar Dua Lipa explains the upcoming change in the video below.
The Official Charts site details the conversion from video streams to sales, "100 streams via a subscription service will equate to one sale, as will 600 “free” streams."
