Tom Waits auditioned for Reservoir Dogs, says Quentin Tarantino
Tom Waits auditioned for an unspecified role in Reservoir Dogs, says director Quentin Tarantino, reading the 'Madonna' speech.
The seminal movie - Tarantino's first proper directing gig - hits 25 this year, and for the Tribeca Film Festival over the weekend Tarantino, Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi, Tim Roth, and Michael Madsen reunited for a celebratory screening. Afterwards at the Beacon Theater the acclaimed director and fellow cast members revealed a few juicy titbits about the flick, with the juiciest relating to Mr. Waits.
"We had the casting director from LA Law," Tarantino revealed, as reported by Variety. "A lot of really wild people came in and read the parts. Tom Waits came in and read. I had Tom Waits read the Madonna speech, just so I could hear Tom Waits say those lines... and actually, other than Harvey [Weinstein], he gave me one of the first profound compliments on the script. No one had ever told me my work was poetic before."
In case you'd forgotten, the 'Madonna' speech is below. Tarantino himself took the lines in the end.
