The Smiths parody group The Iain Duncan Smiths stream their debut LP
Genuinely brilliant comedy/parody bands are rare, but The Iain Duncan Smiths are definitely up there.
Taking on the government, specifically Iain Duncan Smith and the Department for Work and Pensions, the foursome twist classics from The Smiths into darkly comic odes. It's thickly laid on satire, but it's disarmingly great nonetheless.
"Girlfriend In A Coma (She's Fit For Work)" is particularly brilliant.
Musically it's not half bad either, with fairly spot-on Morrissey warbles and bittersweet acoustic riffery.
The band's lineup includes Iain 'Psycho' Duncan Smith (vocals, guitar, Bedroom Tax), Iain 'Laughing Boy' Duncan Smith (vocals, guitar, Universal Credit), Iain 'The Quiet One' Duncan Smith (vocals, guitar, Work Capability Assessments), Iain 'The Other Quiet One' Duncan Smith (vocals, guitar, data suppression, xylophone), and are aiming to "[recruit] recruiting Borrissey as a shadow 5th member."
The band is working on their upcoming sophomore LP, Me Is Murder. They will make their debut live performance this Friday (18 September) at The Good Ship in North West London.
