The Go! Team are back with "Semicircle Song" and details of their first shows in three years
The Go! Team have returned with vibrant new mood-lifting number "Semicircle Song", the first song from new LP SEMICIRCLE.
The collective's new LP follows 2015 smash The Scene Between, and was laid down by a band comprising bandleader Ian Parton, Simone Odaranile (drums), Angela 'Maki' Won-Yin Mak (vocals), Sam Dook (guitars), and rapper Ninja. Amber Arcades and Lispector (plus) more contribute.
"With 'Semicircle Song' I was trying to take the technicolour feel of a marching band into a more psychedelic place, reclaiming that sound from patriotic or sporty bullshit and harnessing its toughness and power," explains Brighton-based Parton. "Brass which takes your head off, bouncy xylophones, offbeat handclaps and toms hopping in the gaps - I hoped it would be recognisably The Go! Team but unlike any song we’d done before... something more about the space between the notes. But when the notes hit, you make them count. Vocals were laid down by a bunch of teenagers in Detroit [The Detroit Youth Choir], which is a musical mecca for me. In the middle eight I thought it would add a kinda interstellar cheekiness if they each introduced themselves, and their star sign."
The Go! Team will play a string of UK shows in February - their first live dates in three years - including a headline stop at the Electric Ballroom in London. Find out more.
