The five French artists you can't miss this month
The new French music scene is going through an Âge d'or. While some of its members ditch the French language in the hopes of courting an international presence, others embrace it to make inventive pop songs. Watch and listen below for the best of both camps.
Fauna Twin
If you haven't caught on the French/Welsh duo yet, now is your time. Blending together a healthy mix of pop and electronics between St. Vincent and Ratatat, they are heading to the UK in May for the all-French Oui Love night in London.
Halo Maud
After a stint with Melody's Echo Chamber, Maud Nadal is launching her solo project Halo Maud with a half-English half-French EP, a brilliant introduction to her soft and melodic psychedelic pop which bodes extremely well for what's to come.
Ricky Hollywood
Bandmates with Halo Maud, Ricky Hollywood makes funny bittersweet songs with lots of heart. The first single of his debut album is the important and until-now missing anthem of meeting someone whom you can't remember if you've met them before.
Clea Vincent
Cléa Vincent makes candid, charming, super-simple pop songs that reveal themselves more and more with every listen. With straightforward vocals, she's one of the heralds of the yé-yé revivalism, adding a tropical twist on her last EP.
Bryan's Magic Tears
After supporting The Jesus and Mary Chain in Paris, the lo-fi garage Parisian band is riding some deserved hype which is taking them across the channel. It's powerful, messy, and surprisingly melancholic.
