The Beatles announce 50th anniversary edition of The White Album
The White Album by The Beatles' will receive a special 50th-anniversary release including unreleased demos and session recordings.
The Beatles' iconic self-titled ninth album is in its 50th anniversary year.
To coincide with the half a century celebration, the album will be re-released with new mixes, previously unreleased demos and session recordings.
The White Album re-release will feature thirty tracks, all mixed by Giles Martin and mix engineer Sam Okell, who have restored the sound to stereo and 5.1 surround audio, with the help of expert engineers and audio restoration specialists at Abbey Road Studios in London.
Giles Martin explains more, “In remixing The White Album, we’ve tried to bring you as close as possible to The Beatles in the studio. We’ve peeled back the layers of the "Glass Onion" with the hope of immersing old and new listeners into one of the most diverse and inspiring albums ever made.”
Alongside the re-mixed album, the 50th anniversary package will include 27 acoustic demos, and 50 session recordings, most of which are unreleased and unheard.
Last year The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band also got a revamped release. In the introduction to The White Album anniversary edition, Paul McCartney writes, “We had left Sgt. Pepper’s band to play in his sunny Elysian Fields and were now striding out in new directions without a map."
The new boxset will feature six CD's and Blue-ray DVDs, and even arrives with a hardcover book with rare photographs, handwritten and notated lyrics.
Fans can also get a deluxe three CD set which will feature a fold-out poster, portrait pictures, and 24 pages transferred from the box sets' own hardcover book.
