Teyana Taylor clarifies retirement comments, says majority of post was to "warn my label"

Last Friday (4 December) Teyana Taylor shared her Spotify Wrapped results for 2020. While she thanked fans for listening to her music, Taylor wrote that she felt "super under appreciated as a artist, receiving little to no real push from the "machine", constantly getting the shorter end of the stick, being overlooked, I mean the list on and on lol.."

Many fans thought she was retiring from music altogether when she wrote, "I’m retiring this chapter of my story with the comfort that i can depart with peace of mind seeing that all the hard work & passion put in was indeed loved & supported somewhere in the world!"

Over the weekend, Taylor hosted an Instagram Live explaining her original post. During the IG Live, Taylor confirmed that her comments were aimed her record label - Kanye West's G.O.O.D Music and Def Jam Records. Taylor said, "The majority of what that post was to warn my label who I’ve been signed to for almost 10 years. Everything that you guys see of me, everything that I put out, everything that I do is 100% me. There’s no gun to anybody’s head to do anything that they don’t want to do. So yes, I am going to feel under appreciated if I’m putting in 110% and my label is giving me -- they’re reciprocating, what, 10% of that."

Taylor revealed that she has repeatedly asked for Def Jam to drop her from the label after receiving "literally no push" for her music over the years. She also said, "I constantly feel alone, I constantly feel under-appreciated, I constantly feel failed."
