Sufjan Stevens announces joint album with stepfather Lowell Brams, shares new track "The Unlimited"
Sufjan Stevens has joined forces with his stepfather Lowell Brams for a collaborative album, Aporia, which arrives with new single "The Unlimited".
"The Unlimited" is the first taster of Stevens' collaborative album with Brams, who, as well as being Stevens' stepfather, is also the co-founder of Asthmatic Kitty Records.
Aporia was created over several years during Brams' visits to Stevens' New York home. Stevens says of the process, "You know how it is with jamming: ninety percent of it is absolutely horrible, but if you’re just lucky enough, ten percent is magic. I just kept pulling out these little magical moments."
The collaborative album will also include contributions from Thomas Bartlett (Doveman), D.M. Stith, Nick Berry (Dots Will Echo), John Ringhofer (Half-handed Cloud) drummer (and longtime collaborator) James McAlister, keyboardist and trombonist Steve Moore (Sunn O)))), guitarist Yuuki Matthews (The Shins), and vocalist Cat Martino.
Aporia will be Stevens' first album since releasing The Decalogue score in October 2019.
