Stormzy apologises to Skunk Anansie after comments on headlining Glastonbury

01 July 2019, 17:48 | Written by Cerys Kenneally

Stormzy has apologised to Skin from Skunk Anansie after claiming he was "the first black British artist to headline Glastonbury."

Before his headline set at Glastonbury last Friday (28 June), Stormzy shared a heartfelt message on Twitter, writing, "I am the first black British artist to headline Glastonbury. At 25 years old I am the second youngest solo act to ever headline Glastonbury, the youngest being a 24 year old David Bowie in 1971. I’m overwhelmed with emotions, this is the most surreal feeling I’ve ever experienced."

Skunk Anansie's Skin responded to Stormzy's message on Instagram on Saturday (29 June), writing, "Sorry Stormzy but we beat you to it in 1999! 20 years ago! And while we’re on topic, I was the first black Woman too!"
