Steve Earle shares cover of Justin Townes Earle's "Harlem River Blues"
Steve Earle and The Dukes have released a cover of Justin Townes Earle's "Harlem River Blues", which will feature on Earle's J.T. tribute album arriving next year.
Back in September Steve Earle announced plans to record a covers album of songs by his late son with his touring band The Dukes, following Justin Townes Earle's death in August.
Today (18 November) Earle has unveiled a cover of his son's "Harlem River Blues" song, which is a first glimpse of the J.T. covers album.
According to Pitchfork, Earle said of the tribute album in a statement, "The record is called J.T. because Justin was never called anything else until he was nearly grown. Well, when he was little, I called him Cowboy. For better or worse, right or wrong, I loved Justin Townes Earle more than anything else on this earth. That being said, I made this record, like every other record I’ve ever made... for me. It was the only way I knew to say goodbye."
Proceeds from the J.T. album will be put into a trust fund for Townes Earle's daughter, Etta St. James.
