SOPHIE's brother gives update on unreleased music
SOPHIE's brother Ben Long has provided an update on the late artist's unreleased music, revealing that there's "literally hundreds of tracks".
In a new interview with Billboard, SOPHIE's brother Ben Long has discussed SOPHIE's unreleased music and what he plans to do with it, six month after SOPHIE passed away following an accident in Greece.
According to the piece, the unreleased music in SOPHIE's vaults is a combination of rough song ideas to tracks that are nearly complete. SOPHIE's brother said of the volume of songs, "There is a lot of music in the vaults, absolutely. There are literally hundreds of tracks."
While there's no concrete plans to release SOPHIE's music yet, Long revealed that the decision is largely down to the family, and will involve him, as all of the music is in his possession. "I don’t know what anyone else could do, really, because they don’t have access to it," Long said.
The piece reveals that as well as contributing to SOPHIE's 2018 album Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides, Long worked with SOPHIE on an unreleased follow-up that only needs finishing touches. "The idea SOPHIE and I discussed many times was to do one abstract experimental album and then a pop record," Long explained. "This was going to be the pop one - and to keep going on that cycle for years, I don’t want to be like, ‘We’re going to put everything out,’ because sometimes SOPHIE didn’t want it to or it wasn’t finished. But it was quite clear with a lot of songs, just from the fact that we had been working on them and mixing the album, that I know the direction a lot of things were supposed to be going."
Long added of the future, "There are many, many discussions to be had. The most important thing for us is doing right by SOPHIE - putting stuff out that SOPHIE was happy with and would want to be out."
