Slowdive's first major UK festival headline set captivates at End of the Road
Capping a triumphant comeback tour with their first ever headline set at a UK festival, Slowdive enchanted the Woods stage with a captivatingly beautiful dream-pop reverie on End of the Road Festival's opening night.
Always more of a beloved cult concern than a main stage draw in their early '90s heyday, the Reading five-piece immediately put paid to any insinuation they were happy to rest on their laurels by launching into "Slomo" from their new, self-titled album, though fans of an older vintage were well-catered for with cuts from their older classics.
A band of few words, Rachel Goswell's silken vocals and the thundering, yet luscious shoegaze of her bandmates secured what might well be the largest Thursday night audience in the festival's history. After 28 years as a band, Slowdive may finally be getting the recognition they deserve.
