Slash played a gig in the House of Commons last night
Former Guns N Roses guitarist Slash played one of the most bizaree shows of his career last night, with an album launch to mark his new album with vocalist Myles Kennedy taking place in the UK Parliament.
The 48-year old - real name Saul Hudson - played a selection of songs from his three decade career in the Terrace Bar at the House of Commons, including a rapturously-received version of his old band’s classic “Sweet Child Of Mine”, with a hundred or so voices singing along.
The event was part of Rock the House, founded by Mike Weatherley, Intellectual Property Adviser to the Prime Minister and Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade. Rock the House is a competition founded three years ago as a parliamentary initiative with backing from industry and a host of celebrity patrons. The event champions British creative industries and protects and promotes artists’ Intellectual Property Rights.
“[It’s] a real honour to welcome one of the greatest guitarists in history to the beautiful Houses of Parliament,” says Weatherley. “Slash joins an impressive list of musicians whom Rock the House has hosted at the House of Commons over the years…[it’s] a once-in-a-lifetime event.”
World on Fire - the new record by Slash with Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators is released on 15 September via Slash’s own label Dik Hayd International distributed through Roadrunner Records.
