Seinabo Sey unveils powerful new track "Breathe"
Swedish artist Seinabo Sey has shared short-but-sweet new ode "Breathe", and an accompanying video starring childhood friends and their daughters.
"This is my little note to self, a reminder that there are places and spaces where I feel at ease," explains Sey. "And in the meantime, until I get there, all I have to do is breathe."
The track began life during a spur-of-the-moment visit to Dakar, Senegal early last year - while in the country, she says she was "sitting there, thinking about why I really enjoyed being there. I love it here because I don’t have to explain myself to people... I realised that as a black woman, so much of our time is spent explaining obvious things about our culture or ourselves, when she would rather just be."
The new number follows last month's double-whammy of "I Owe You Nothing" and "Remember". Its video was shot in Gambia and directed by Sheila Johansson and NewLand.
