Ross From Friends releases Thresho software that "defined" second album Tread
Ross From Friends has made his Thresho software available to the public, and is encouraging fans to interact with it after it "defined" his recent second album Tread.
Last month Ross From Friends released his second album Tread, and prior to its release, he detailed a piece of software he created called Thresho, which begins recording when the audio "hits a user-defined threshold", and automatically saves the clips with timestamps, meaning users can revisit and experiment without needing to replay or recapture any parts.
This afternoon (22 November) he's made Thresho available online, alongside a wide range of recordings that are all marked with the date and time that are free to download.
In a statement on socials, Ross From Friends wrote, "I wrote a piece of software last year called Thresho. It's a utility that records everything you play once the audio reaches a certain threshold and stops once it dips below that threshold. If I just stood up and mashed some keys on the synth right now, it’d record exactly what I just did. Once it's done it puts the recording, timestamped, into a folder so I could access it later."
"Over the course of writing Tread, Thresho automatically created this audio diary of everything I did in the studio," the artist continued. "The album is defined by this process, so I wanted people to be able to innteract with it to get a closer understanding of the album as a whole."
He added, "I've omitted the recordings that I used on the album, I feel like they already found their purpose in the songs I made from them. I want these recordings to stand alone as their own entity. I hope you enjoy them."
His statement also encouraged fans to uuse the recordings for their own "music, video, performance, dance, whatever," and has made it possible for fans to upload their own interpretations of the recordings on the site.
