Roskilde Festival organisers cancel 2021 event due to COVID-19 restrictions
Organisers of Denmark's Roskilde Festival have announced that the 2021 edition won't be going ahead due to coronavirus restrictions, and will instead return in 2022.
The 2021 edition of Roskilde Festival, which was due to host Kendrick Lamar as a headliner, has been cancelled after organisers received "an official statement about this summer's restrictions."
Organisers wrote in a statement posted on the site earlier today (4 May), "As expected, we can’t conduct a Roskilde Festival this summer. Let us meet again in 2022."
They added, "The cancellation is very serious for the festival, for the charity society behind it and for our community. And it is serious for the artistic environments and the growth segments of culture. But it will not be possible to gather 130,000 people at Roskilde Festival this summer. But we will meet again in 2022. And our community is strong!"
We finally received an official statement from the authorities: There will be no Roskilde Festival this summer. Let’s hold on to the thought of how fantastic it’ll be to meet in 2022! Read about the cancellation here: https://t.co/Xor5hUi67V pic.twitter.com/Y4P7addhkO
