Robyn unveils new track "Set Me Free" on Beats 1
Robyn & La Bagatelle Magique (Robyn, Markus Jägerstedt, and the late Christian Falk) just revealed their second single, "Set Me Free".
"Set Me Free", along with the recently released "Love Is Free", are tracks that Robyn had been trying out over the past few months at shows across the world before the new project was announced.
Talking to Beats 1 host Zane Lowe about the track, she said: “Sometimes I really don’t know what it is I'm writing about… I think the unconscious is interesting. A lot of times when I write stuff it happens later. I don’t look at songs as truth but as some way of capturing emotion in your life. If you’re lucky they come out as unpretentious."
As well as the new music, she reflected on the success of "Dancing On My Own", one of her biggest hits, saying that she was "amazed that nobody had written a song [with that title]", and that she had to "Google it" to double check. She also added: “It makes me happy that people like it. It’s gotten so much love over the years in different periods in different ways”.
Robyn's new mini-album is expected this summer.
For more info about the project, you read her recent interview on FACT. In that interview, she said:
""Set Me Free" is about that scary point where you’re at the edge, facing something that you think is gonna be… is gonna kill you, even. Then of course, that whole aspect of the album became even more potent when Christian was in a situation that was scary for real. But even before we knew he was sick, we were inspired by his lust for life. Like when your life becomes a video game, and you’re excited by what you’re doing, because you’re not scared of it. But life is not a video game. Maybe that’s why video games are so fun. Because it’s an illusion of control."
