Refused unleash new track "Elektra" and announce first new album in 17 years
The day is finally here: Refused are ALIVE. The Swedish hardcore quartet have unleashedbrand new track "Elektra", and with it announced their first new album in 17 years.
Freedom is the follow up to 1998's The Shape of Punk to Come, and is set to see release via Epitaph on June 29.
"Elektra" is the first cut from that release. Guitar riffs so thick you can practically feel them pounding into your system kickstart a rampaging venture into entirely thrilling territory. Dennis Lyxzén's distinctive vocals are still as strong as they ever have been, the band's energy as full-throttle as it was first time around.
The band famously announced that "Refused Are Fucking Dead" in 1998. "It’s not a reunion anymore," Lyxzén said of the band's current status. "This is one of the most radical things we’ve ever done, both musically and lyrically."
"Nobody wanted us to fuck with the image of the band who makes a great album and splits up. Nobody wanted us to dilute it," drummer David Sandström added. "That actually provoked us.”
