Radiohead and Hans Zimmer working together on music for new David Attenborough documentary
Radiohead and Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer have joined forces for a new piece of music for the Blue Planet II soundtrack.
The artists are collaborating on an orchestral rework of "Bloom", a song from Radiohead's The King Of Limbs LP, with the band's frontman Thom Yorke rerecording vocal takes for the fresh edit. You'll be able to hear the new version of "Bloom" - dubbed "ocean (bloom)" - when a five-minute "prequel" airs on 27 September.
"'Bloom' was inspired by the original Blue Planet series. It's great to be able to come full circle with the song and reimagine it for this incredible landmark’s sequel," says Yorke. "Hans is a prodigious composer who effortlessly straddles several musical genres so it was liberating for us all to work with such a talent and see how he wove the sound of the series and 'Bloom' together."
Zimmer added that the track "beautifully reflects the jaw-dropping lifeforms and seascapes."
Blue Planet II is the sequel to the pioneering 2001 series, and was recorded over four years. Sir David Attenborough returns to narrate both the series and the prequel.
