Previously imprisoned Pussy Riot members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina are reportedly suing the Russian government.
According to The Guardian, the pair are each suing for €120,000 ($161,000/£94,000) in compensation and €10,000 ($13,000/£7,000) in court fees following their 2012 jail sentence. Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina are appealing to the European Court of Human Rights, claiming that torture from Russian guards violated their rights.
The two activists were originally sentenced to two years in prison for “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” after protesting against President Putin at a Moscow church.
