Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer, a documentary based on Russian activist group Pussy Riot, has been shortlisted for this year’s Academy Awards.
The HBO flick, released in June 2013 and premiering at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, followed the trial of the three imprisoned members of the punk band. It has been nominated in the documentaries category alongside music film, 20 Feet From Stardom.
Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 24, and Maria Alyokhina, 25, were recently released from jail. Yekaterina Samutsevich, 31, was released in October 2012.
