Prince's music is coming to streaming services on 12 February
Prince's catalogue is set to return to the likes of Spotify and Apple Music.
UPDATE 10/2: Spotify reps have confirmed it: "The Warner Bros Prince catalogue will be available on Spotify from this Sunday, 12 February (the day of the Grammys)." Find out more.
UPDATE: The New York Post have revealed that The Purple One's music will hit "most streaming services" on 12 February to coincide with the 59th Grammy Awards ceremony. The paper's source ("a music insider") claims that "Prince’s Warner Music Group albums... will stream on Apple, Spotify, Pandora, Google Play, Deezer, and other outlets."
In November it was revealed that Prince's estate were trying to wrangle the exclusive rights away from TIDAL. It was also reported that the estate inked a deal with Universal Music Publishing Group.
Although nothing has been officially announced, it's been clear something had shifted at the Prince camp in recent days and weeks. Spotify have replaced their usual lime green colour scheme with a dazzling shade of purple - not a huge indicator by itself, but with further sources confirming that Prince's music would "soon" be available on Apple Music, it's looking more and more likely that "Purple Rain", "When Doves Cry", and more would be headed back to the rest of the streaming majors.
Prince's catalogue returning to the rest of the streaming services ends a nearly two-year stay with TIDAL. Prince was not too fond of the format, but something about TIDAL made him change his mind.
