Ólafur Arnalds uses "groundbreaking new software" to create six-minute track "re:member"
Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds has unveiled stunning new number "re:member", which was created using his pioneering Stratus software.
"The video touches on elements of masculinity and how men communicate their feelings," says Arnalds of the Thora Hilmarsdottir-directed video. "But also the hope and joy we can find in each other when we manage to connect with each other or something that we share."
The award-winning artist uses his new software to turn the piano into a very different instrument. The Stratus Pianos are two "self-playing, semi-generative player pianos" - and, augmented by strings, electronics, and beats (which were co-produced by Bngrboy), they sit at the centre of Arnalds' new compositions. He speaks a bit more about the concept in a pair of videos - check out part one and part two.
Arnalds will showcase this new music at a number of shows throughout 2018, including one at London's Royal Albert Hall. Find out more.
