New Orleans jazz group sues Rick Ross, T-Pain and more for copyright infringement
A New Orleans jazz group, The Batiste Brothers are suing Rick Ross, T-Pain, Pitbull and Cash Money Records as a whole for stealing their music in a lawsuit which claims damages for $100,000,000.
All Hip Hop revealed the news recently after getting a hold of the applicable legal documents. Filed at the United States District Court, Eastern State of Louisiana, the 118-page document states that the defendant, Paul Batiste representing the jazz band, believes that Rick Ross and others have “blatantly poached beats, lyrics, melodies and chords” from The Batiste Brothers back catalogue.
It also claims that many of the songs which have the stolen elements in them have been released many times as different versions and “each release constitutes as an independent act of copyright infringement”.
