Nakhane's new number began life as an homage to "Pornography-era The Cure"
South African artist Nakhane has unveiled "Interloper", a rampant dark-pop sliver of upcoming debut LP You Will Not Die.
The track, which features warlike beats and gospel-splashed backing vocals, joins up with lead track "Clairvoyant" and "Presbyteria" to preview Nakhane's first full-length,
"I spent about three years writing 'Interloper'," explains Nakhane. "It first started out as a Pornography-era The Cure homage. Then it morphed into a slow, acoustic Iron & Wine thing. Ben Christophers (producer) and I decided to make it a stomp and a romp. Something that one could spin around to. Even though it's a song about irrational jealousy and anonymous sex."
The Alice-born, Port Elizabeth-raised polymath, who is also starring in The Wound, is playing London's Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen on 20 March.
