Mykki Blanco signs to Transgressive and unveils new single "Free Ride"
Mykki Blanco is the latest artist to join Transgressive Records' roster, and celebrates the news by releasing new single "Free Ride".
"Free Ride" is Mykki Blanco's first new single of 2021, following last year's Devendra Banhart collaboration "You Will Find It".
Blanco's new track is co-produced by FaltyDL and Hudson Mohawke, features backing vocals from Grammy-nominated Mykal Kilgore, Leah King and L1ZY, and marks their debut release since signing to Transgressive Records.
Blanco says, "Some of the most intimate moments and conversations I have ever shared were with my mother on long drives in the Southern countryside when I was a teenager. The music that soundtracked these memories on our daily journeys was the stuff of my mother's generation. I would find myself daydreaming, reflecting and envisioning the kind of life I would like to create for myself. These memories and the music of Luther Vandross were the first inspirations behind the creation of my new song "Free Ride"."
Transgressive co-founder Toby L notes of Mykki Blanco's signing, "We have been huge fans of Mykki Blanco since we first saw them slay our sister Visions Festival several years ago in London. Fiercely defiant and effortlessly genre-less, it is an absolute honour to welcome them to the Transgressive roster. We have so much incredible music set to drop in the next 12 months across several very important projects. An icon and an unmistakable charisma, making some of the most vital music we’ve heard in years: prepare to be utterly enchanted."
