Mitski reveals atmospheric track "Geyser" alongside details of new album
Esteemed songwriter and storyteller Mitski has revealed "Geyser", the first track taken from upcoming album Be The Cowboy.
Mitski is a professional when it comes to emotional, atmospheric music. The Japanese/American singer/songwriter has always had a vivid imagination that translates beautifully within her music.
"Geyser" is the first track to be taken from the upcoming album, and it's undoubtedly brimming with atmospheric soundscapes and Mitski's ethereal vocals.
While delicate and bold at the same time, Mitski's "Geyser" presents a woman who translates narratives into music impeccably.
Speaking about her upcoming album Be The Cowboy, Mitski explained some of the narrative behind her new music as, "a very controlled icy repressed woman who is starting to unravel. Because women have so little power and showing emotion is seen as weakness, this ‘character’ clings to any amount of control she can get. Still, there is something very primordial in her that is trying to find a way to get out.”
Having collaborated with long-time producer Patrick Hyland on her new album, Hyland wanted the listeners to receive the loneliness surrounding Mitski's music, as he states they aimed for a "person singing alone on stage" kind of atmosphere, dropping layered vocals so listeners can hear the raw emotion in Mitski's music.
