Michael Eavis says "big names" from Glastonbury 2020 line-up will "hopefully" play in 2022

Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis has given an update on next year's line-up, saying the "big names" planned for last year's event will "hopefully" return in 2022.

Next year, Glastonbury Festival plans to make a big return after having to cancel in 2020 and 2021. Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney were due to headline the Pyramid Stage in 2020, and now festival founder Michael Eavis has revealed that some of the "big names" planned for the cancelled editions will "hopefully" return next year.

Eavis told ITV News West Country, "We've got the big names coming back I think - the same bands that I think we had lined up three years ago, or hopefully, fingers crossed."

He added, "It's not all about the bands though, that's the thing. It's all the other stuff we do that makes the show work - it's why we're so successful I think."

Last month Emily Eavis announced the one-day Worthy Farm event planned for September wouldn't be going ahead. Mendip District Council granted a licence for Worthy Farm to host a one-day event with a live audience in May. A list of 50 conditions came alongside the licence, including only allowing performances to take place on the Pyramid Stage, a capped capacity of 49,999 (including staff, traders, performers and crew), and no camping allowed.

Despite Glastonbury Festival being cancelled for the past two years due to the pandemic, organisers hosted the Live At Worthy Farm livestream in May, which featured performances from Coldplay, Wolf Alice, Jorja Smith, Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner as The Smile, and more.

Glastonbury Festival is expected to return to Worthy Farm next summer.
