Matthew & The Atlas reveal tender new album cut "Old Master"
Matthew & The Atlas has shared "Old Master", a touching, sprawling folk tune from upcoming album Temple.
Explaining the track, the outfit's Matthew Hegarty says: "This song is about an imagined figure, created from the need to deal with a trauma. It's about the death of that relationship and through different experiences, finding your way through it."
Stretching out over almost four minutes, the song crams together some astonishingly beautiful melodies and textures. Rolling acoustic riffs waltz between mournful harmonies and Hegarty's passionate croon, with snares trembling as the seconds tick on - "Old Master"'s lush closing moments are a stark contrast from the gossamer beginnings. This is a stop-you-in-your-steps taste of the new record.
"Old Master" joins up with "Elijah" and "Temple" in previewing the second album from Matthew & The Atlas.
Temple is out 22 April via Communion.
