Arctic Monkeys' Matt Helders and Joe Carnall share debut track "Silk & Leather" as Good Cop Bad Cop
Good Cop Bad Cop, the new project from Arctic Monkeys' Matt Helders and Milburn's Joe Carnall, deliver debut track "Silk & Leather".
Written by Carnall and produced by Helders, "Silk & Leather" is the first track to be released from their self-titled debut album.
The project was born out of the two Sheffield rockers reigniting their long-term friendship, with Joe Carnall sending some homemade demos to Helders in LA.
With Helders on board, the pair retreated to Helders' home studio (nicknamed The Goldie Locks Zone) in the Hollywood Hills, where Carnall took the lead with all instruments - aside from drums of course. Carnall explains, "Even though we’re old mates, it was surreal having someone of that calibre drumming and singing backing vocals on songs I’d written."
Expanding on their collaboration, Helders says, "I’ve become progressively more interested in production over the years but have perhaps never been brave enough to take the first steps; Joe’s project seemed like the perfect place to start. It was great for both of us as we could afford to make mistakes without a huge bill to pay at the end. It really was just two old friends spending time together and making music in a glorified garage."
The new project arrives after the dust has settled on Arctic Monkeys' 2018 release, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, which we had a bit of fun with and compared Alex Turner's lyrics to Alan Partridge.
